The Somerset County Public Works Complex is a new 119,910 s.f. complex that serves the needs of Somerset County’s 21 municipalities. The complex is designed to achieve LEED Certification Program at the Silver level. This certification requires high efficiency heating and ventilation systems, and monitoring software.
The project included the construction of a 24,440 square foot garage and office building. There are 4,500 square feet of office and administrative space. Preengineered, the building has standing seam roofs and masonry walls.
Key sustainable elements designed into the 10-acre complex include approximately 600 kW of photovoltaic solar arrays, which allows the County to save a significant amount of its proposed electricity usage for the completed project.
Other sustainable features within the complex include natural daylight throughout, a heat and energy recovery system for maintenance areas, the use of recycled materials throughout, and a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system for the vehicle and equipment wash bays that will service the municipalities’ public works automotive equipment.
