SSP designed a new 45,000 s.f. Workforce Development Center on an existing site at the RVCC western campus to support the joint efforts of Somerset and Hunterdon Counties, as well as the NJ Department of Labor, in providing quality workforce training for the region.
The Center was constructed using pre-engineered tilt-up concrete building components for the shell; traditional bid and construction were used for the balance of the work. It houses a series of multi-purpose classrooms and training labs, hands on workshops, technology labs, and suite areas to support the following identified program areas:
- Cosmetology Suite
- Environmental Control Technology/HVAC Lab
- Machining/Advanced Manufacturing Technology
- Automotive/Small Engines Technology Lab
- Cyber Security Technology Lab
- Workforce Development Training Room
- General Purpose Academic Classrooms
- Administrative Offices, Storage & Support Spaces
Design of instructional spaces is purposely flexible and fluid, with flexible MEP and technology infrastructure that can accommodate program changes over time. The goal was to design spaces large enough and appropriately supported by ventilation and power so that equipment and course content can change and the layout can be readily reconfigured as needed to stay current with advancements in workforce readiness skill training and opportunities offered in the job market.
