SSP Architects provided Ocean County College with architectural design and coordination services for a suite of 13 practice rooms designed to support a variety of musical disciplines, including percussion, brass, and stringed instruments. SSP developed a layout that accommodates different instruments and rehearsal needs while maintaining efficient circulation within the suite.
A key component of the design was the incorporation of specialized acoustic assemblies to ensure effective sound isolations. Each practice room was acoustically separated from adjacent rooms as well as surrounding program spaces and those located above, minimizing sound transmission and allowing multiple musicians to rehearse simultaneously without disruption.
In addition to the practice room suite, the project included a theatrical lighting upgrade to the existing Black Box Theater located on the first floor of Area A of the Grunin Center for the Arts. SSP Architects coordinated the design and integration of updated theatrical lighting infrastructure to enhance the flexibility and performance capabilities of the venue. Working with theatrical lighting consultants and the College, the team evaluated existing conditions and developed improvements including updated lighting positions, improved support systems, and new control components.
These upgrades enhanced both rehearsal and performance environments within the Grunin Center, supporting the College’s performing arts program and providing students and faculty with improved spaces for practice, instruction, and live performances.
