Ground was broken in December 2023 on a new SSP Architects design of a 2-story addition to the David Brearley Middle/High School in Kenilworth, NJ. This much needed construction includes a 2-story link between the existing building and the new addition. This will open up space for new science labs, general classrooms, and an Administrative Office area for the Middle School and High School programs.

This project is the centerpiece of a bond referendum approved last year with the major goal of alleviating overcrowding issues challenging Kenilworth schools. The upgraded, expanded Brearley facility designed by SSP Architects will have a high-tech science wing and an Athletic Lobby addition that will be totally accessible to students of all physical abilities via an outdoor ramp.

Students will benefit from SSP’s upgrades to existing classrooms, and surrounding sports fields, as well as HVAC replacements and Auditorium upgrades at Brearley and Harding Elementary School. Once the work is completed in 2025, sixth graders will move to Brearley for a more age-appropriate learning experience. This will free up space for Pre-K at the Harding School.
