Hamon Corporate Building The four-story Hamon Building and its adjacent parking structure are located at the east end of Somerville’s Main Street business district. An area of the town that until recently has been completely lacking in activity or growth for nearly three decades was improved by this “gateway” into the downtown business district.
The preference of the Hamon Corporation to relocate into the downtown core marks one of the few instances where a major corporation has settled in a traditional downtown setting rather than flocking to outlying office parks which have contributed to suburban sprawl. It gave rise to a special East End Redevelopment District consistent with Somerville’s long range plan.
Completed for a Spring 1999 occupancy, the developer and SSP delivered the project via design build.
The cumulative benefit of the project is not just additional tax ratable for Somerville, but also for additional office and parking space that enhances the downtown core. The 4 story, 65,000 s.f. facility houses the offices of County government as well as several other businesses in its leased space. The adjacent space parking structure has created a revenue, generating vehicle contributing to the local tax base. |
