Jersey City School District P.S. 20 The Jersey City School District is completing a replacement school for P.S. 20, to form a new model community school for the District. Administered by the New Jersey Schools Development Authority, the scope of work undertaken by the team includes adherence to district educational goals and objectives in facility design.
A dedicated academic classroom wing allows for separation of students based upon respective grade levels yet sharing of common, core facility space and functions. It is balanced by shared-use community space positioned in a manner allowing ready access from community-facing entries but allowing separation from the academic portions of the school in order to avoid inappropriate crosstraffic conflicts between students and visiting adults.
The overall design is responsive to the environmental site constraints within Jersey City, and addresses appropriate facility placement given the significant environmental concerns and conditions of the property. The resulting 120,000 s.f. facility design offers Jersey City a solution for urban neighborhood school development. |
